Update
We've released Optia 2.0.2, an update that includes a few small but important changes.
First, the EMP bomb will be unlocked for everyone. We initially wanted it to be difficult to unlock, so people wouldn't immediately resort to using it, but it seems we made it much too hard for anyone to get.
Second, the uploads-remaining counter is smarter. There was a hole in our system - some people found that they could delete a level with the intention of creating a new one, and before finishing the new one, lose an upload for a separate reason. Then, when they tried to submit their new level, they would be told that they didn't have enough uploads.
This was a flaw, so from now on, for every level you delete, you'll get an extra upload that only disappears when you make a new level - so you can't accidentally get locked out of making more levels. This will also be retroactively applied to everyone, so it should be as if this problem never existed.
These changes, along with a couple of additional bug fixes, should be a big improvement. As always, if you have any complaints, suggestions, or kind words, let us know!
Optia 2.0 released!
At long last, Optia 2.0 is available on the App Store! It's certainly been a long time in the making, but we think it's the best update we've come out with yet.
There are a ton of improvements and new features, but the most noticeable addition is the level editor. Once you unlock it (by beating 30 levels), you can create and upload your own levels, and then see information like number of completions, average time spent, and a ratings breakdown. There's also a way to see all the different ways people are solving your levels.
And since everyone else gets access to the level editor too, there's a growing body of great user-submitted levels. So far, we're really impressed and happy with the quality of these levels. Keep 'em coming!
Optia is now a universal app, so you only have to buy it once to run it on any device you own. It has Retina display support for the iPhone, and full-resolution iPad support. And there's a great system for automatic syncing, so you can put down your iPad and head out the door with your iPhone, and pick up right where you left off.
We've also significantly improved the graphics and gameplay, and added a smattering of new sound effects. There's also Game Center support, with leaderboards and achievements and - much to our delight - 2,000 players and counting!
If you haven't played Optia yet, we encourage you to check it out. It's $2.99 for the universal app.
Once we see how this update fares, we'd like to do an update post with more information - how many people are playing, making levels, etc., as well as our sales and ranking information. (We're a lot more likely to post this if it's good news. Just saying.)
We're incredibly excited to see so many people participating, and are looking forward to many more awesome levels from you!
Beta test begins!
We've started the beta test for Optia 2.0, featuring the new level editor! We sent out an email to anyone who's already expressed interest in beta testing; if you'd like to help out and haven't contacted us already, just send us an email and we'll get you started.
We're really excited to hear your feedback!
Level editor
We are getting close to a beta version of the level editor. We're 1 to 2 months away from actually releasing it, so we're going to start beta testing soon.
If you're interested in getting a sneak peek and giving us some feedback (and having your levels be some of the first online!), just send us an email, and we'll contact you when we start.
Startup bug fixed!
It appears that if you last closed Optia immediately after beating the first 100 levels, and then updated to version 1.3, it would crash the moment the loading screen finished. I've fixed this problem, and submitted version 1.3.1 to Apple. Apologies for the annoyance!
(Aside: If this wasn't the way Optia crashed for you (for example, if it crashed before the blue loading bar reached the top), please let me know! This is the only type of crash I've confirmed so far.)
Recent crashes on startup
We've gotten a few complaints about the latest version of Optia crashing on startup. This hasn't happened to us during testing, but I'm looking into what might be causing it. If this has happened to you, make sure you sync with iTunes - this will send us a crash report so I can see exactly where it crashed. Hopefully, I'll get this straightened out shortly, and we'll get a bug fix out ASAP.
Optia version 1.3 now up on the App Store!
Apple has approved our update, so you can grab it now on the App Store! The update includes:
- 40 new levels! They can be found in the bonus page of the level menu.
- Optia now saves your most recent solution to each level! Load your solution by tapping the green checkmark next to the level name.
- Improved graphics and UI
- Fast task switching support
Optia version 1.3 submitted to Apple!
We've sent off the next update to Apple! It's got 40 new levels and a bunch of improvements, so we're hoping Apple will approve it promptly.
Change of plans
We've run into some problems integrating the PlayHaven network into Optia, so we've decided to hold off on it for the time being.
Instead, our next update will include a number of bonus levels (finally!), a graphics makeover, and fast task switching support.
